Game On! ASICS Brings Back University Badminton Championship with New Invitational Cup

ASICS Malaysia is strengthening its commitment to university sports with the return of its main badminton tournament for campuses, the ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026, alongside the introduction of the ASICS Badminton University Invitational Cup 2026.

The tournaments are set to bring together university athletes from across Malaysia and abroad, offering a competitive platform designed to nurture emerging badminton talent while promoting excellence in higher education sports.

According to ASICS Malaysia Country Manager Boon Tib Soon, the initiative reflects the brand’s continued dedication to supporting badminton development at the university level.

"As we continue to strengthen our presence in the badminton category, the ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026 reflects our commitment to supporting the sport at every level. By engaging university athletes through meaningful competition, we hope to inspire a new generation to pursue excellence while embracing a balanced approach to performance and wellbeing," he said.

The ASICS Badminton University Championship 2026 will take place from 24 to 26 June at Arena Badminton DBKL Cheras, while the newly introduced Invitational Cup 2026 is scheduled from 26 to 28 June at the same venue.

The championship tournament is open to student-athletes from public, private and international universities in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the Invitational Cup expands participation to include local and international institutions in a mixed-team format.

Matches across both tournaments will be played using a 15-point, best-of-three format. The University Championship will feature Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles events, as well as the Bakat Baru (New Talent) divisions. The Invitational Cup will contest Mixed Doubles, Men's Singles and Men's Doubles categories.

Beyond competition, the event aligns with ASICS' global philosophy, "Sound Mind, Sound Body," which emphasises the importance of balancing athletic performance with mental wellbeing. Organisers said the tournaments aim to help student-athletes develop confidence, discipline and resilience both on and off the court.

Registration for both events closes on 9 June 2026. Entry fees start at RM55 for singles categories, RM110 for doubles categories, and RM450 per team for mixed-team events.

ASICS expects strong participation from universities nationwide and from overseas institutions, further enhancing the standard of competition and providing greater exposure for young badminton players.

In conjunction with the tournaments, ASICS will also showcase its latest indoor court footwear range, including the COURT CONTROL™ FF 4, GEL-TACTIC™ 13, GEL-ROCKET™ 12 and BLADE™ FF 2, designed to support agility, stability and performance on the badminton court.
